Big Bang Theory
Edwin Hubble
The Big Bang Theory (also known as the BBT) is the most widely accepted theory around the world of how the universe was created. The Big Bang Theory originated when in 1929, Edwin Hubble, American Astronomer, made a revolutionary finding. He discovered that the universe is constantly expanding at very quick speeds. Hubble established this as he realised that galaxies outside the Milky Way were all moving in the opposite direction to us (away), all at their own times based on their position (how far away it was from Earth). Through the study of his realisation he soon became conscious that there must have been a time when the entire Universe was contained in a single point in space. His theory states that the Universe must have been created in this single event which came to be known as the "Big Bang" through expanding at an intense speed. Due to thorough research, scientists have established that the time of this significant event occurred approximately about 14 billion years ago. Below is a picture summarising the Big Bang Theory.
